Cast into Form - Slipcasting - International Ceramics

The Galerie Handwerk is Munich's top address for international applied art and crafts design. The exhibition "In Form gegossen" (Cast into Form) documents a phenomenon in contemporary ceramics - the interest shown by ceramicists in the casting process, which has previously been associated mainly with industrial ceramics production. The show will shed light on various approaches and motivations behind the interest in this method. The focus will be on an involvement with tradition and the possibilities of individualizing objects. The casting technique with its perfection and harmony would seem to challenge craftspeople to a new breakthrough. At the same time, working with moulds invites reflections on series production and one-off pieces, on the relationship between everyday objects and objects of art. The Galerie Handwerk exhibition will present about 150 pieces by 38 ceramicists from 14 countries.
