Disruption Friction

BECC Agency on community having a value beyond price

 “I’m not a specialist.”

A bold introduction from Metin Seyrek, one of four directors at BECC Agency. The 46-year-old explains that his company—among Germany’s top 20 CI/CD agencies—has a host of talented designers, architects, and project managers. “But what I can do is to provide inspiration and impetus, and make decisions.” Perhaps it’s this ability that is the secret to successful collaboration: humor, and a flair for identifying where skills can best be complemented..

Established in 2006, today BECC Agency employs almost 50 people from 15 countries. It is a melting-pot of different perspectives and experiences from the fields of design, architecture, text, conceptualization, and development. “We’re extremely diverse in everything we do,” stresses Seyrek, explaining that the agency’s activities range from training and qualification to a whole array of creative approaches. “The challenge is to empower both the structured workers and the offbeat creatives to join forces and produce great things.” It helps that BECC Agency is built on the principle of a family-run company. Every project is personally overseen by one of the four directors—Katharina or Sabine Kraus, Leif Geuder, or Metin Seyrek. “We treat each other like one big family,” says Seyrek. He describes Sabine Kraus as the “mother” of the company, playing the central role of looking after the employees’ wellbeing and “mental health.” And on the subject of mothers, Seyrek, who looks for professional experience when recruiting, is constantly impressed by the efficiency, organizational skills, and flexibility of mothers in part-time positions.

So much more than a mere “nice to have,” diversity is an absolute must for a company navigating through the ever-shifting challenges involved in brand building. An environment that appreciates diversity and brings together different perspectives is an environment where a company culture based on openness can grow. “Our daily interactions are based on honesty and transparency, occasionally with a little friction,” says Seyrek. This culture of respect-based dialogue is the key that allows creativity to unfold and strengthens team spirit.

Community is crucial

Design also unfolds its power in social institutions, serving as a recruitment tool that inspires people to work with and for others—a subject addressed by Seyrek in his keynote at the Hauptstadtkongress Berlin healthcare conference. He regards the concept of community as crucial, particularly as it is no longer a given today. “We need to learn from each other if we are to continue developing and advancing with each other.”

Bringing people and brands together

The E in BECC Agency stands for Event. Connecting people with brands is at the heart of BECC, and deep in its DNA. With a roster of projects for clients ranging from Vodafone, main sponsor of the Online Marketing Rockstars Festival (OMR), to Munich-based unicorn Personio at HUG, the meeting point of the HR sector, BECC brings brands and their communities together. “The more highly digitalized our world becomes, the greater our longing for authentic togetherness with others,” says Seyrek. BECC events offer far more than opportunities to share knowledge; they are keenly anticipated highlights, where people look forward to meeting up.

BECC’s services extend from the concept and planning stages to full-scale events, supporting brands in telling their stories and building authentic connections to their target groups. “We bring creative ideas and people together to make the most of synergies and foster long-term sustainable relationships,” explains the brand expert.

At eye level with the clients

Seyrek encourages his team: “We want our clients to understand that our role goes beyond a mere service provider. We are their partner along the journey of implementing their visions.” This philosophy requires ongoing interaction that is not limited to individual projects. Seyrek firmly believes that “honest communication is the key to successful relationships.” In fact, negative feedback is actually desirable: “There is no point in avoiding conflict. The courage to address truths, even uncomfortable ones, is an essential element of genuine progress.” These are the foundations from which long and trust-based client relations can grow.

New “community space”

BECC’s upcoming relocation to the banks of the River Isar south of Munich will enable the agency to further embrace the outside world. The open office concept at the agency’s new Isarwinkel headquarters will foster creative dialogue at both internal and external level. The “community space” at their heart offers plenty of scope for coming together, and can be booked for workshops, events, and networking occasions. “Our goal is to create a hub where creative minds and innovators can meet, exchange ideas, and work together on developing them,” says Seyrek. And, by doing so, to underline BECC’s position as a hub in Munich’s creative scene.

The value of community

At BECC, interaction is at front and center. In the team, in collaborations with clients, or in designing spaces that encourage encounters. Friction, dialogue, growing together: this is the art of interaction, brought to life and taken to new heights by BECC.
