Designblok Cosmos and the intergalactic beauty of Czech Design
For mcbw 2025, Designblok Cosmos has landed in the middle of Munich's Königsplatz, like a futuristic metal capsule. The unique exhibition by the Czech design festival, Designblok Prague, brought together ten original glass works by ten of the best contemporary Czech designers and offered visitors to this year's mcbw an immersive audiovisual show against the backdrop of cosmic infinity.
Ten designers and ten objects.
Ten stories, methods and approaches to shaping the contemporary object word.
Objects in space for sharing emotions, sensations and ideas.
An exhibition as a symbolic mission.
For more than 25 years, Designblok has been cultivating the Czech design scene by collaborating with renowned designers, supporting young artists, bringing creators together with industry representatives, raising public awareness and representing Czech design on the international stage. The mobile gallery, Designcosmos, whose concept was developed in discussions between the Designblok team and the PPF Foundation, combines all these things into one. A freight trailer was specially built for the exhibition. The interior, designed by Czech Grand Design award winner Jan Plecháč, is clad with 170 mirrors, and the exterior of the capsule is wrapped in a reflective silver shell.
The exhibition was first presented in October 2023 on the occasion of the 25th Designblok in the Royal Garden of Prague Castle. During mcbw week from 10 to 18 May 2025, thousands of visitors often endured long queues to see the spectacularly staged interior of Designcosmos.
