Cities of Things – a new smart city paradigm!

The first field lab approach under the renewed Dutch-German collaboration is themed ‘Cities of Things’. It explores a new smart city paradigm that is shaped by the emerging digital layer, unlocking new intelligent and autonomous services and objects. People and technology will become partners in dealing with upcoming city challenges. Designers have new challenges in shaping these new relations.

The Cities of Things concept explores how new technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) combined with the Internet of Things (IoT) can become part of the daily lives of city dwellers.
In the field lab, the neighbourhood will function as the design space. How can the ecosystem of objects and systems help stimulate local entrepreneurship and bridge the best of digital and physical for common neighborhood citizens?

A consortium of creative partners from Amsterdam and Munich such as INFO, Space&Matter, Springtime, Sophisti, Munich Urban Colab (among others) have been shaping the first ideas and plans for a responsible intelligent neighbourhood hub that empowers citizens and increases liveability through sustainable logistics. In this MCBW session, we share these plans and invite local stakeholders and potential partners to reflect and participate in the field lab program. Take the next step together with us!
