Designblok Prague showcases the intergalactic beauty of Czech design
Designblok Cosmos is touching down in Munich in a unique metallic capsule mounted on a space-age six-wheeler. Bringing together ten original glass works made by ten of the foremost contemporary Czech designers, this one-of-kind exhibition offers an immersive audio-visual show against a backdrop of cosmic infinitude. Through experimentation with glass – a material with a long tradition in the Czech lands – the exhibited objects demonstrate peerless design approaches and fine craftsmanship and know-how, while also showcasing the diverse technologies and most cutting-edge production methods used in Czech factories and workshops today.
For over twenty-five years, Designblok has been cultivating the Czech design scene by collaborating with renowned designers, supporting young artists, connecting makers with industry representatives, spreading awareness among the general public and representing Czech design on the international stage. And this movable gallery, the concept for which was developed in conversation among the Designblok team and the PPF Foundation, connects all these things into one whole. A freight trailer was custom-fitted for the purposes of the exhibition. The interior, designed by Czech Grand Design winner Jan Plecháč, is covered with 170 mirrors and the capsule’s exterior is draped in a reflective silver casing.
