Out of the Box shows results from the Industrial Design program at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach School of Design in Munich's Olympiapark.
Texts, images and objects in the counter windows of the former Südwest outdoor cash desk in Munich's Olympic Park explain the significance of industrial design for key issues of our time: from human and social needs to economic efficiency and sustainability through to technological transformation. The presentation location has been chosen with care, as the design of the Olympic Park follows the ideal of an open and enlightened society - a space for encounters, participation, peacefulness and progress. At its core, industrial design is a social act and a concept of participation that serves the negotiation of ideas; the outdoor ticket offices and the entire Olympic Park (built between 1968 and 1972) reflect this disciplinary ethos through their functional planning and symbolic significance.
