The street reveals how vibrant a community truly is! Each of us participates in the Gesamtkunstwerk streetscape—we inspire new perspectives on our own performance.
When thinking about designing a vibrant community we often forget how this starts with designing and perceiving a vibrant self. Susanne Bleicher-Kaikkis (owner and curator of avant-garde ethical fashion gallery Respct.me) and Lieta Marziali (jewellery artist, writer, researcher, curator and mentor) invite you to the culmination of their participatory project, which started in February, exploring the act of wearing in influencing ourselves and the role of the wearer in influencing the community and society.
We invite participants to take inspiration from Lieta’s conceptual narrative jewellery to create spontaneous dressing-up sessions in the gallery, be photographed and complete a questionnaire about the process. The initial presentation in March during Munich Jewellery Week attracted considerable attention, helping to shift perceptions of design away from passive purchasable objects towards active individual subjects, conscious of their responsibility in this everyday action.
Experience how wearing can be a powerful creative act, both transformative and formative. It touches upon questions of identity, power and freedom, as well as of fear, prejudice and otherness. As such, it is an intimate political act we perform every day. The project highlights wearing as an act of self-interpretation as well as of understanding of and bringing change to our social landscape by fostering diversity.
A short documentary film on the project will be shown on May14th as further event
