WHO GIVES A SCHICHT -the documentary film about the project

Fashion is like music – it must be performed! The film tells the story of a project that inspires vibrant performance and demonstrates shared responsibility for a diverse community.

A vibrant community comes from individuals who perceive themselves as vibrant. This short film is one of the outcomes of a participatory project by Susanne Bleicher-Kaikkis (owner and curator of avant-garde ethical fashion gallery Respct.me) and Lieta Marziali (jewellery artist, writer, researcher, curator and mentor) exploring the act of wearing in influencing ourselves and the role of the wearer in influencing the community and society.

Wearing can be a powerful creative act, both transformative and formative. Touching upon themes of identity, power and freedom, as well as of fear, prejudice and otherness, it is an intimate political act we perform every day through self-interpretation as well as creating change in our social landscape by fostering diversity.
Since February, we have been inviting participants to take inspiration from Lieta’s conceptual narrative jewellery to create and perform outfits from the gallery’s curated selection, and to decide, wether they would wear this in real life or rather not - and why.
The initial presentation in March during Munich Jewellery Week attracted considerable attention, helping shift perceptions of design away from passive purchasable objects towards active individual subjects, conscious of their designing responsibility in this everyday action.
