Rehumanizing Complexity: Why Play Matters in Innovation

What if uncertainty was not a risk, but a playground? In Design Futuring, we open the door to Protopia and explore new paths together.

In times of acceleration, pressure to drive efficiency, and uncertainty, many decisions revolve around the immediate present. Yet constraint rarely breeds innovation. It requires distance, shifts in perspective, and the freedom to play and imagine possibilities beyond the expected.

As part of the MCBW 2026, we are opening a space for exactly this kind of thinking. In our Design Futuring workshop, we explore an open topic for the future, not as a prediction, but as an invitation to cast our thoughts further.

Approaching the topic from different future perspectives, we develop scenarios that open up new viewpoints: What could be possible? What is probable? What would be desirable? And what do these perspectives mean for our actions today?
Design Futuring allows us to step away, if only for a moment, from the pressures of the present. It does not eliminate uncertainty, but makes it workable. It creates the mental flexibility that innovation feeds on.

This process reveals new perspectives, viable options, and a clearer view of strategic decisions in the here and now.
