18th century fashion design

18th century fashion design

Even 200 years ago, fashion victims were seduced by new trends influenced by diverse cultures. Sophisticated robes and precious fabrics manifest the evolution of fashion.

Tour through the exhibition with Dr. Johannes Pietsch.

The robes and accessories exhibited at Bayerisches Nationalmuseum reflect the diversity of fashion inspirations in the 18th century. While the French court was the unequaled paragon, the exoticism of distant lands also left a mark. However, in the second half of the century, a functional clothing style had the largest impact and resulted in a radical change in fashion. Innovation was seen in everyday garments. Soon after, also the robes worn at the French court became simpler and more comfortable.
