Mara Sandrock

Mara Sandrock, born 1983 in Wuppertal, Germany is an artist with a scientific background. First she studied Medicine at the University of Leipzig, then Fine Arts at Burg Giebichenstein in Halle.
These two subjects show her engagement with the human body, which she is exploring in all its variety, diversity and changeability.
Her first chosen subject was Painting, from which she still draws most of the traditional materials for her works. These seem to move from the wall to the floor and into the room,
where you can see the influence of the further chosen Sculpture department.
Even today, Medicine and Visual Arts are inseparable from her working methods and are supportive to her artistic practice through the twofold intimate contact with the human body.
