Jörg Sommer

Jörg Sommer is a publicist and founding director of the Berlin Institute for Participation. He has also been Chairman of the Board of the German Environmental Foundation since 2009 and co-editor of JAHRBUCH ÖKOLOGIE. Jörg Sommer has been working on issues of democracy and citizen participation for many years and has published over 200 books. The BÜRGERBETEILGUNG (CITIZENS' PARTICIPATION), which he edited, is a fundamental work on successful civic participation. His weekly newsletter demokratie.plus sheds light on numerous aspects and developments in our political system, which he explains pointedly, critically scrutinizes and supplements with innovative proposals. Jörg Sommer has been awarded the Federal Cross of Merit for his work as a writer, democracy and environmental activist.
