After studying geography in Munich, Günther Langer began his professional career as the first environmental officer of the city of Garching near Munich.
From 1991 until 2006, he was deputy head of the strategic planning department of the Abfallwirtschaftsbetrieb München (AMW). During this time, the Munich waste management concept was developed, implemented and updated.
From 2006 to 2013 he was Deputy Office Manager at the Office of the Head of Unit of the Municipal Department and Commissioner for International Cooperation.
He has been a member of the EUROCITIES Working Group on Waste since 1998. Since 2012, he is chairing the European Waste Management Expert Group of the Association of Municipal Enterprises e. V. (VKU). Since 2013, he heads the office of the management of the AMW.
