In dialogue with the exhibition "Viktor&Rolf – Fashion Statements", students of Deutsche Meisterschule für Mode / Designschule München present works in the fields of fashion and communication design

White Memories
An Upcycling Project by the Fachschule für Modellistik

So-called "whites" – undergarments, tablecloths, bed linens, etc. – used to be part of every bourgeois household. From today's perspective, the often discarded pieces contain not only material resources but also very special memories. Besides a certain admiration for the craftsmanship of lace, embroidery, and borders, the students also learned to listen to the stories that these fabrics told us from their previous lives. Through deconstruction and reconstruction, nine models were created that now tell the story of their resurrection.

Viktor & Rolf often use type in their fashion creations. Short texts provide an additional layer of meaning to the outfits. These "Fashion Statements" were picked up by the students to typographically reinterprete them as word images. With consciously selected or newly created letter forms, the students created an aesthetic effect that does not necessarily harmonize with the content. Playing with the lettering created a tension that often adds a new layer of meaning to the texts.
