For one year, Die Neue Sammlung invites visitors to the Pinakothek der Moderne to explore the idea of "sitting as a collective experience" and "sitting as a form of communication".
Social seating invites people to take a seat and enter into communication. The focus is on the possibility of open communication between museum visitors, but also on people's relationship to sitting and sitting objects.
The 15 seating objects presented by Die Neue Sammlung are international designs from the 1950s to the present day. The exhibition reflects on the temporal and social contexts of collective sitting, on playful, modular and experimental designs, as well as on the rethinking of industrial design in relation to material and sustainability.
Against the background of a growing "social alienation" caused by the virtual world and the increasing digitalization of social and professional life, the exhibition Social Seating aims to enable direct contact between people and promote analogue conversations.
