Hydroponic Workshop

Build your own urban-farming bottle according to the hydroponic principle – a cultivation method in water that does not require soil, as the plant roots are supplied via a nutrient solution.

The aim of this hands-on workshop is to make your own hydroponic bottle according to Kratky, plant it and take it home with you.

The artist Kat Petroschkat will give you an insight into the fascinating world of hydroponics and her YDROPONDESK project in cooperation with the Fraunhofer IAO. In the workshop, you will receive an introduction to hydroponic cultivation and learn about the history of the development and use of the YDROPONDESK project. Dr. Mascha Gugganig will give you insights into hydroponics and its overlapping with vertical farming, as well as her experiences with the YDROPONDESK.

Growing plants on your own desk is not only a practical solution to urban space problems, but also raises interesting questions: How does the proximity of plants influence desk work? What significance do proximity, aesthetics and care have for the relationship between people and their nearby plants?

YDROPONDESK is an experimental design object that was developed by Kat Petroschkat as part of the project "Immersive Urban Food Landscapes" of the Fraunhofer Network "Science, Art and Design" with the Fraunhofer IAO and the Werksviertel-Mitte Kunst. Both YDROPONDESKS created in the project are currently in use at the LMU Biology Center.

The workshop is for anyone interested, ages 10 to 100+.
